Rhea turns 4 months old on the 24th so I wanted to let y’all know how she is progressing. First of all let’s go through some milestones for 3-4 month olds. We’re gonna do a checklist sort of thing. Ps, all these milestones are ones I get from the CDC website.
- Smiles spontaneously, especially at people *
- Likes to play with people and might cry when playing stops *
- Copies some movements and facial expressions, like smiling or frowning *
- Begins to babble *
- Babbles with expression and copies sounds he hears –
- Cries in different ways to show hunger, pain, or being tired *
- Lets you know if he is happy or sad *
- Responds to affection *
- Reaches for toy with one hand *
- Uses hands and eyes together, such as seeing a toy and reaching for it *
- Follows moving things with eyes from side to side *
- Watches faces closely *
- Recognizes familiar people and things at a distance *
- Holds head steady, unsupported *
- Pushes down on legs when feet are on a hard surface *
- May be able to roll over from tummy to back *
- Can hold a toy and shake it and swing at dangling toys *
- Brings hands to mouth *
- When lying on stomach, pushes up to elbows *
Tevin and I have noticed that Rhea does almost all of these! She has such a cute gummy smile I love it so much. Rhea enjoys playing on her mat with anyone who will lay on the floor with her. She hasn’t cried when I stop playing she just cries when she’s done playing and wants to move onto the next thing. Our baby has many facial expressions and I love seeing new ones pop up. I have noticed that she will smile back really big when someone is smiling at her. I have yet to try frowning at her just because she makes me so happy what do I have to frown about! I will try it out though and see if she mimics. Rhea has been babbling now for months it feels. She’s a talker and I love it. It’s so nice at the end of the day when she tells us all about her day. I have not noticed her trying to mimic my or Tevins sounds though. I’ll keep an ear out for that. She definitely has different cries for different things. Honestly I have only recently figured them out and I’m not sure if it’s really that I’ve figured them out or if I just know her schedule a bit so I know if she’s tired, or hungry. If you can’t tell the difference between your baby’s cries I’m not judging. I think its totally fine. You’ll figure out what your baby needs. I’d say she lets us know she’s happy by smiling and “hugging” and sad by crying and poking out her bottom lip. Rhea definitely enjoys affection. She loves being cuddled, held, kissed, and talked to. She like holding my hand as well when she’s nursing. Rhea has been reaching for toys for a while now but has gotten very good at it. Rhea enjoys watching everyone’s faces. She also enjoys touching faces. Sometimes very aggressively. I have a scratch under my lip from her aggressiveness. Which reminds me, I need to trim her nails! I honestly feel like Rhea has had amazing neck and head control since we brought her home. I didn’t have to support her head for very long at all before she was doing it all on her own. She has also been pushing her legs down on hard surfaces for a while. She very much enjoys “standing”. ROLLING! If you read our rolling blog then you already know she’s doing this. I’m going to say she’s a pro roller now. Back to tummy and tummy to back. She’s my little rollie pollie now. A few months ago we got Rhea a bouncy seat when we noticed she enjoyed doing sit-ups and trying to “sit”. This chair has 3 different toys on it which she learned to swing at soon after we purchased it. Rhea has a lot of different rattles and is not a pro at shaking them but is getting much better and stronger every day. Little girls hand have been in her mouth since day one. Baby loves sucking her thumb. When Rhea rolled over today onto her tummy I noticed she pushed herself up to her elbows. I haven’t seen her do it before today so it was really awesome. Some other things Rhea has done that I noticed are for one, finding her toes. She has found them and loves them! She has even sucked on her big toe. What a cutie right?! Rhea also likes to sit with support of course. We have a sit me up she enjoys being in for a few minutes at a time. Off topic but I would just like to note that Rhea has been sleeping in her crib for an hour right now. YAY!
Rheas skills amaze me! I cant wait to see all the things she starts doing in the upcoming months. It is so hard to believe that in just 2 months Tevins and I will have had Rhea for half a year. Wow. These past four months with her have been incredible and I just love her so so much!
